Tea Box Manufacturing Process

1. Drying
The wood used is cedar from Shizuoka. It absorbs moisture when humid and releases it when dry, which is perfect for tea boxes. After drying, the wood undergoes a shaving process to ensure that the size and thickness are uniform. This takes around two months.
2. Jointing
If the length is insufficient, additional wood is attached to meet the required dimensions. The wood is prepared to last for decades, even centuries.
3. Cutting
Each piece is cut to a specific size, with surfaces shaved to ensure smoothness. Sections with knots are avoided, and where necessary, reinforcement is applied to improve durability and aesthetics.
4. Assembly
The main parts are assembled together. High-quality wood is used to prevent cracking over time.
5. Iron Band Attachment
Iron bands are attached to reinforce the structure, which also serves as an aesthetic element.
6. Paper Lining
To further reinforce the structure, washi paper is used on the inside, completing the shape of the box.
7. Completion
After final inspection, the product is completed.
