The Achille Castiglioni Foundation and Giorgina Castiglioni are thanked for their kind permission to include this stool in the 1:16 Series.

1:16 Series:
Paper models of chairs and interiors to cut, fold, and collect. Flat prints transform into three-dimensional pieces, creating miniature spaces that come to life.

Designer: Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, 1957
Material: Enameled Tractor Seat, Chrome-Plated Steel, Beech

The Mezzadro Stool is a prime example of the Castiglioni brothers' approach to design—repurposing existing objects to create new products. Composed of four elements—a pressed tractor seat, an inverted support rod, a bicycle wing nut, and a beechwood dowel resembling a pestle—the stool embodies their playful yet sophisticated design philosophy.

Alongside other iconic pieces such as the Sella stool, which features a bicycle saddle, and the Toio lamp, made from a car headlight, the Mezzadro demonstrates a blend of wit and modern design thinking. First unveiled at the 1957 Milan Triennale, it was later showcased in a living room installation at the Color and Shape in Today’s Living exhibition at Villa Olmo on Lake Como.
